Harold W. Larsen, Jr

Harold W. Larsen, Jr, 84, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, passed away surrounded by his family on August 6, 2020.  He was born June 13, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Helen (Neva) and Harold Larsen, Sr.
Harold graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago, Illinois.  He attended Wright Junior College. From 1957 until 1963 Harold served in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He worked for Illinois Bell/AT&T for 30 years before opening Larsen Phone Service.
On September 22, 1962, he married Susan Erlandson at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL.  Their home-base for most of their marriage was in Rockford, and during retirement they traveled as much as possible in their RV to warmer climates during the winter.  In 2010, they relocated their permanent address to their summer cottage in Sturgeon Bay, spending each winter at the Travelers Rest Resort in Florida.
Harold loved being on boats and in the water, skiing, fishing, and swimming.  He owned a boat from the time he was 19 until he was 83.  Harold also enjoyed helping others and was known as a handyman.  Growing up he helped his dad build the family cottage and continued to learn the carpenter trade from his father on construction jobs.  Later, he added additions to their home in Rockford, and helped many friends and family members with their home projects.  Harold was also skilled as a plumber, electrician and mechanic—with an insatiable curiosity to understand how things worked.  He shared the fruits of this passion in being a resource and mentor to anyone seeking tools and instructions to build or fix things.
A life-long Lutheran, Harold was consistently involved in church, serving on council, running the sound system/recording services for radio broadcast, and managing building maintenance.  He transitioned from a seasonal member to a full-time member of Hainesville Lutheran Church in 2010 and enjoyed attending Wednesday Breakfast Bible Study there.
Harold is survived by his wife, Sue, his children: Kristine and Amy (and husband Michael), and his four grandchildren: Kyrill, Andrey, Elizabeth, and Katherine.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Harold Larsen, and his brother Eric.
An outdoor, graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Hainesville Cemetery.  The family plans to have an event to celebrate his life in the summer of 2021 (during his birth month of June with hopes it will be safe to gather socially again) as Harold always told them, “I have lived a great and happy life, and I want you to celebrate that when I’m gone.”
The family would like to send special thanks to all of Harold’s medical caregivers during this last year, as they helped him to continue to enjoy life to the maximum extent possible.
Online condolences and remembrances of Harold can be shared at forbesfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Hainesville Lutheran Church (3944 County M Sturgeon Bay WI 54235).
