Alma Marie Vandertie, 89, of Brussels, passed away at home on Nov. 29, 2020. She was born June 19, 1931, to Henry and Josephine (Dubois) Berger. On Nov. 5, 1947, she married Lawrence J. Vandertie in Namur.
Alma and Lawrence began their careers in business running a milk route. Together they started a tavern called the 57 club. In 1964, they purchased a bar in Brussels and named it the A&L Bar. After Lawrence died, Alma changed the name to Alma’s. Alma loved to polka dance and enjoyed many years of playing cards.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Bonnie (Gary) Renard, Sturgeon Bay; and Beverly (Joe) Wautier, Brussels; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Ann) Renard Sturgeon Bay; Marissa (Jason) Norton, Brussels; Nathan (Alexa) Wautier, Madison; and Cathy Jo (Joe) Albert, Luxemburg; 10 great-grandchildren: Samantha, Gabby, Taylor, and Carrie Renard; Regan and Nicole Norton; Gus and Ivan Wautier, and Noah and Vinny Albert; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Carrie Ann Renard; in-laws: Nelson (Josie) Vandertie; sister, Della (Marvin) Lemens; and god-daughter, Shelby (Robert) Davister.
Private family services will be conducted with entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
