Cynthia "Cindy" Joy Tong

Cynthia “Cindy” Joy Tong, 62, lifelong resident of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Door County Medical Center.

She was born April 8, 1958 in Sturgeon Bay along with her sister Sue, the twin daughters of William “Bill” and Helen (Klapatch) Tong. Cindy attended Cherry School and graduated in 1979. Cindy then went to work at the Sunshine House and Candle Factory. Working on candles was her favorite job. She worked for over 36 years at the Sunshine House and in 2003 was Employee of The Year. Cindy participated in several theater productions put on by the Sunshine House. She loved music and she loved to sing and dance and you’d better believe she made her presence known on stage.

She participated in bowling at Apple Valley Lanes and won several trophies which she was very proud of. Everywhere Cindy went she was very friendly and made everyone smile.

For 16 years she participated in Hearty Conditioning classes at DCMH with her dad, Bill. She was very active and loved to be outside walking and sometimes even running. Sometimes her caregivers had all they could do to keep up with her.

Her favorite movie was the Wizard of OZ. She also enjoyed Sesame Street, Cinderella and the annual Christmas specials on TV. Cindy enjoyed going to the Door County Fair every year. Her favorite ride was the Tilt-A-Whirl. She looked forward to her annual corn dog and playing the balloon dart game. She also enjoyed playing with cards, sorting them and stacking them.

Cindy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her two sisters, Sandra Tong Draper and Sue Tong-Fredrickson, both of Sturgeon Bay; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Honold of Jacksonport; and six nieces and nephews, John White, Steve White, Renee Stein, Heidi Honold, John Fredrickson and Rebecca Fredrickson-LaCrosse. She is also survived by numerous cousins. Cindy will also be missed by Miss Kitty who slept with her every night.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Diane Tong and Mary Honold; and one brother, David Tong.

Due to the pandemic, private graveside services were held at St. Joseph Cemetery where Cindy was laid to rest next to her parents.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be sent to the family at 1116 North 15th Place, Sturgeon Bay.

Please sign online register, leave expressions of sympathy, share memories and photos of Cynthia with her family through her tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.

Her twin sister Sue is requesting that if anyone has a story or happy memory of Cindy to please share it.
