Barbara Ellen Gosser

Barbara Ellen (Hass) Gosser, 66, of the Town of Egg Harbor (Sturgeon Bay), passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, January 5, 2021 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay from an acute illness.

Barb was a lifelong resident of Door County. She was born in Sturgeon Bay on August 3, 1954 to William Murray Hass and Doris Irene (Hilander) Hass. Barb spent her early childhood in Sister Bay and attended (the former) Wildwood School and Liberty School. Her family moved to Institute during her middle school years, and she attended Sevastopol School. Following her graduation from Sevastopol High School in 1972, Barb went on to study education for a year at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Gosser (whom she first met in high school) on June 8, 1974 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. They were blessed with two children: Grady and Katy.

Barb started her insurance career over 40 years ago as a secretary at Bernhard-Nelson Insurance, located on Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, which became Pagenkopf Insurance. She eventually bought the agency and worked on her own until she partnered with Rick Hannemann in 2001 and formed Hannemann-Gosser Insurance, presently located on Jefferson Street in Sturgeon Bay. She was well-respected among her peers and formed many great relationships with her clients. In 2014, Hannemann-Gosser Insurance received The Rotary Clubs of Door County Ethics in Business Award.

Barb initially grew up attending church in the Sister Bay area, and upon her (family’s) move to Institute, she attended Bay View Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. She remained a lifelong and active member of Bay View, serving as church council president for several years and as a member of the building committee. Barb was also a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.

To her family, she was the kindest and most devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be so deeply missed. Everyone who knew Dick and Barb were in awe of their marriage and strong love for each other. Barb was always very active in her children’s lives and loved attending all of their sporting, school, and church events. She was so proud of their accomplishments and felt very blessed that they met and married wonderful people. Barb had a special bond with her four grandchildren and would tell you that her favorite title was “Grandma” or “GG.” She was their biggest cheerleader.

Besides spending time with family and friends, Barb enjoyed quiet nights at home reading and gardening. She loved sitting on the deck on a summer night drinking a glass of red wine with her husband, Dick, by her side. Barb’s family and friends will be able to enjoy her beautiful flower gardens for years to come.

Her love will live on in the hearts of her husband, Richard, with whom she shared over 46 years of marriage; son and daughter, Grady (Nicole) Gosser and Katy (Aaron) Schroeder, both of Menomonee Falls; four grandchildren, Sophie Gosser, and Ella, Eli, and Emily Schroeder; three siblings, Carol Weymier, Chuck (Judi) Hass, and Paul (Lynn) Hass, all of Ellison Bay; siblings-in-law, Kay Hass, Kathy (Rolf) Simonson, Jane (Mitch) Weber, Steve (RaeAnn) Gosser, Jeff (Sandy) Gosser, Tony (Karen) Gosser, and Marcy (Tom) Stark; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, William and Doris (Hilander) Hass; parents-in-law, Raphael and Marilyn (Mathey) Gosser; brother, James Hass; brother-in-law, Kenneth Weymier; and other relatives.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and will continue at the funeral home on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Dual chapel-occupancy at the funeral home will be limited to 50 people including family (25 people per chapel).

Due to current health considerations and gathering limitations, a PRIVATE memorial service will be held at Huehns Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2021 with Pastor David Raben officiating. Those attending the visitation and/or service are to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

The memorial service will be livestreamed via the “Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC” Facebook page at 10:30 a.m. Those anticipating viewing the service from Facebook are encouraged to “Like” the funeral home Facebook page any time prior to the service (or go to the Huehns Funeral Home Facebook page [www.facebook.com/HuehnsFuneralHome]) to receive immediate notification of the live broadcast.
