James A. Magle

James A. Magle, 86 years, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Wednesday evening, February 24, 2021, at Kewaunee Care Center.

     He was born August 3, 1934, one of eight children, on the family farm in the Town of Nasewaupee, the son of the late Reinhardt and Katherine E. (Gebauer) Magle.

     Jim graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1952 before serving his country with the United States Army at the earliest onset of the Vietnam War in 1956 to his honorable discharge in 1958.

     He married Dorothy Wolf and together they had two sons, David and Donald. Dorothy preceded Jim in death in 1993. On June 16, 1994 he married Merrilynn J. Thron at Sturgeon Bay Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2008.

     Jim worked for Door County Cooperative for many years at multiple locations but primarily managing the mill in Forestville until his retirement. Jim was known as a friendly, easy going man, always smiling, and engaging. He enjoyed watching TV game shows, especially, ‘The Price Is Right’.

     Surviving family members include his two sons, David (Margaret) Magle of Sturgeon Bay, Donald (Gail) Magle of Algoma; two grandsons, Nathan (and his girlfriend, Morgan Kroening) Magle of Algoma, Adam Magle of Algoma; one great-grandson, Lukas Magle; and special friend, Ruby Pichette.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; two wives, Dorothy Wolf Magle, Merrilynn Thron Magle; four brothers, LeRoy, Harry, Gerald, Marvin; three sisters, Katherine Magle, Evangeline Running, Carol Miller.

     A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Huehns Funeral Home with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Military honors will be provided at Huehns Funeral Home following the memorial service. Burial will be at Schumacher Cemetery alongside his wife, Dorothy.

     Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

     In consideration of local health and gathering guidelines, dual-chapel occupancy at the funeral home will be limited to 50 people (25 people per chapel, including family). Those in attendance are to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

     The service will be livestreamed on the “Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC” Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HuehnsFuneralHome). Those anticipating viewing the service on Facebook are welcome to “Like” the funeral home Facebook page any time prior to the service to receive notification of the live broadcast.
