Elizabeth (Weitermann) Schneider

Elizabeth (Weitermann) Schneider, 96, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home early Tuesday morning, July 6, 2021.

She was born June 11, 1925, to John “Jack” Carl and Marvel Elizabeth (Garland) Weitermann in Sturgeon Bay. Beth graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1943. On May 29, 1947, she married Kenneth Rudolph Schneider at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Kenneth preceded her in death on May 29, 2011.

Beth initially worked at the Ration Board Office in the gasoline section after graduating from high school. Eventually, she went to work for Draeb Jewelers.

For many years, she was a member of the Door County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, active with their House and Garden Walk. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, active with the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of the Americas (Court Pere Marquette #1058).

Beth's love of golf, bowling, and swimming slowly became enjoyment of sewing, needlework, playing cards, and traveling. She regularly attended the annual reunion of the Women's Half Century Club as a member of the Class of 1943.

Beth loved her family, roses, Christmas, the poem "Snowbound", soap operas, Victoria Holt novels, cross-word puzzles, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Green Bay Packers, playing the piano, toasting marshmallows, and collecting demitasse spoons from places she traveled. Her family and friends will miss her presence on her front porch.

She is survived by her son, Steven (Deborah) Schneider, Gulfport, Miss.; daughter, Suzanne (Charles) Maddox, Las Cruces, N.M.; five grandchildren, Paul (Pam) Nault, Timothy Nault, Matthew (Denise) Nault, Timothy (Laurie) Maddox and Sarah Maddox; and six great- grandchildren, Logan, Jerrid, Jaden, Eva Claire, Haynes, and Briggs Nault, and SyAnn Hughes. Also surviving is her sister, Lou Meyer, Omaha, Neb.  Beth was preceded in death by her brothers John and Robert Weitermann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters at church on Monday at 9:30 a.m., with visitation to follow from 9:50 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.

Memorials may be given in Beth’s name for St. Joseph Catholic Parish or the Door County Medical Center Auxiliary.

Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay is assisting the Schneider family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Elizabeth may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
