Obituaries

Ursula L. Walser

     Ursula “Ulla” L. Walser, 90, of Egg Harbor, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Good Samaritan Scandia Village, Sister Bay.

     She was born March 11, 1931, in Braunschweig, Germany, the daughter of Walter and Martha (Ottensen) Kunsch. Ulla graduated from Technical University in Germany, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She was united in marriage to Adolf Walser on June 9, 1960, at Bethel Lutheran Church in La Grange, IL. Adolf passed away May 1, 2021, after 60 years of marriage. Ulla was employed with Valspar Paint Company in Chicago, working as a chemist in the industrial coatings department, and in that capacity also with DeSoto and Benjamin Moore.

     In 1994, she and Adolf moved to Egg Harbor after building their own home on White Cliff Road in 1991. Over the years, they attended Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Juddville, and most recently, Calvary United Methodist Church in Egg Harbor with friends.

     Ulla was the first female paint chemist in the Chicago Paint Society (now the Chicago Paint and Coatings Association). Earlier in life, she enjoyed skiing with Adolf and was a member of the Ski Patrol at Wilmot Mountain, WI for 29 years. She was an accomplished and avid tennis player. In Door County, Ulla and Adolf were members of the YMCA and enjoyed classes there together. She also volunteered in the outpatient surgery department at Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay and served on the Egg Harbor Fire Commission for many years.

     Ulla is survived by her sister-in-law, Maria of Germany, and cousins in Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Klaus Kunsch.

     Memorial services will be held at Casperson Funeral Home in Sister Bay at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Friends may call at Casperson Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside committal service will be held at Blossomberg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek with burial to follow at noon.

     Donations in Ulla’s memory may be directed to the Door County YMCA, and Door County Medical Center Auxiliary.
