William "Ken" Helm

William “Ken” Helm, 88, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Southern California, passed away Friday morning August 6, 2021, at Sturgeon Bay Health Services after complications of Alzheimer’s. 

      He was born September 6, 1932, in Aniston, Alabama the son of the late Charles Emmet and Ila Comela (Harrison) Helm. Following his graduation in 1950 from John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles, CA, Ken studied Tool Design at UCLA before receiving his associates degree at Cerritos College.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On November 17, 1962, Ken married Theresa M. Mazzie in Los Angeles, CA.  She preceded him in death on July 28, 2004.  He worked over 40 years as an independent real estate appraiser in California.

    Ken was a member of the National Real Estate Appraisers Association, and Calvary Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay. Ken had moved to Sturgeon Bay to be closer to his daughter Cara as his Alzheimer’s progressed.

     Surviving family include his two children, Cara Helm of Sturgeon Bay, Bill (Teresa) Helm of Bellingham, WA; grandson, Elias Wallace of Sturgeon Bay; step-grandson, Chris Field; former son-in-law, Robert Wallace of Sturgeon Bay; nephews, Mark Stapp of Tyler, TX, and Joel Stapp of California.

     Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Mary Frances Helm, and Theo Dana.

     A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (August 28, 2021) at Huehns Funeral Home, Sturgeon Bay, WI with the Rev. Jerry Marsden pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Sturgeon Bay, officiating. 

     Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Saturday August 28, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.   Military honors will follow at Huehns Funeral Home.  He will be interred in California next to his dear wife, Theresa. 

     The service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 28 will be broadcast live on Facebook for those unable to attend. 

     Memorials may be directed in his memory to Calvary Baptist Church.
