James "Choppsy" R. Baierl

James “Choppsy” R. Baierl, 77, of Luxemburg, passed away with his family at his side, early Friday morning, August 27, 2021. 

 

He was born April 6, 1944, to the late Clarence and Doris (Charlier) Baierl in Kewaunee County. 

 

He attended St. Mary Grade School and graduated from Luxemburg High School.  Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves.

 

  James married Shirley A. Pelishek on January 4, 1969, at St. Hedwig Church in Krok, or so they thought.  Forty years later they discovered they were never legally married, by clergy error, and quickly renewed their vows.  Together they raised four children on the Baierl farm in South Luxemburg. 

 

After thirty years of employment, Jim retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. 

He remained active with the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the State Agricultural Statistics Service and was a former delegate of Foremost Farms USA.  In addition, Jim served as a Supervisor for the Town of Luxemburg.

 

His enjoyments included bowling, trapshooting, fishing with his family, and playing cuyoo with his partners winning many tournaments.

 

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley, and their four children, Mike Baierl, Jason (Julie) Baierl, Tracy Baierl, Kevin (Gina) Baierl; two grandchildren, Grace and Jake Baierl; three brothers, Wally (Rita) Baierl, Pat (Chris) Baierl, Kenny (Diane) Baierl; two sisters, Jeanne (Jim) De Groot, Bonnie (Glenn) Willems; three sisters in law, Kathy Baierl, Chris Stahl, Mary (Bob) Holly; two brothers in law, James (Sandy) Pelishek, Steve Pelishek; many nieces and nephews.

 

James is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother- in-law, Ervin and Lucille Pelishek; two brothers, William Baierl, Clarence Baierl; one sister-in-law, Sharon Pelishek.

 

Friends may call between 9:00 and 10:45 am, Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at St. Mary Church, Luxemburg. 

 

Funeral 11:00 am on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Daniel Schuster officiating.

 

Covid -19 virus precautions are recommended by using hand sanitizer and wearing a face covering.

 

Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Luxemburg, with military rites provided by the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262, Luxemburg.
