Delane Carol Jome, 81, of Sturgeon Bay, died on Sept. 29, 2021 at Door County Medical Center. She was born Dec. 17, 1939 in Sturgeon Bay to Kermit and Esther (Kolstad) Jome and was baptized on Feb. 11, 1940 at Tanum Lutheran Church in Vignes, Door County, WI. Her pastor at that time was Rev. Kjer who was from Norway and served the church during the 1940’s.
Delane attended Sunday School and was confirmed at Bay View Lutheran Church in West Sturgeon Bay, where she later taught Sunday School for 25 years and led several Bible Studies for many years.
Delane attended and graduated from Door-Kewaunee Teacher’s College in Algoma, WI. She taught one year in a rural school and then finished college with a BS degree in elementary education from Oshkosh Teacher’s College in Oshkosh, WI in 1963. Delane spent 32 years teaching primary grades in three different schools on the east side of Green Bay, retiring in 1995.
In retirement, Delane was a very active member of her community. She volunteered for many organizations including: Bay View Lutheran Church, Lutheran Brotherhood Board, Friends of Door County Libraries, Reading Buddy for Sturgeon Bay Schools, Golden member of the Sons of Norway Lodge in Door County, and was a part of the founding members of the Door County Learning in Retirement.
Survivors include 3 brothers, Dr. Ronald (Jan) Jome, Ogden, IA, Dan (Emily) Jome, Appleton, WI, and Wayne (Mary Jo) Jome, Sturgeon Bay, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Darrell.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021. Burial will be in Hainesville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Boys and Girls Club of Door County (55 S. 3rd Ave. Sturgeon Bay). Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
