Ann F. Grimmer

Ann Frances Grimmer (nee Savage), 63, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at her home on December 8, 2021, after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.  Her grief stricken and loving family was by her side.  She was born January 20, 1958, in Sturgeon Bay to George and Muriel Savage. She has two sons, Brandon and Derek Ferrier from a previous marriage and acquired a third son, Scott, when she met and subsequently married Robert “Bob” Grimmer of Sturgeon Bay on June 25, 1994, at Bay View Lutheran church in Sturgeon Bay.

Ann will be remembered by all as one of the kindest, most loving, generous and fun-filled person anyone could ever hope to meet.  Her warm, outgoing, joyful, vibrant personality made almost instant friendships with anyone she met and she never met a stranger. Her radiant smile always lit up a room.  She carried those personality qualities everywhere but in particular to her life’s work and career of twenty-eight years with the Sturgeon Bay Head Start program.  She began her work at Head Start as the bus driver and worked her way up to assistant teacher, teacher and for the past ten years the program manager and director.  Ann’s educational philosophy was a life of service to others. She strove daily to make a positive impact on all of the children and families in the Head Start program and was universally recognized and appreciated for her efforts.

She was also deeply committed to her own and extended family members.  After the untimely, sudden death of her beloved sister, Mary Kienhau in 2009, Ann took on the role of family matriarch. She, and her husband Bob, hosted family holiday dinners at their home every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The extended family affairs often exceeded twenty persons and grew much larger as her nieces and nephews began bringing their own young children to the celebrations.  No crowd was ever too big for Ann at these parties.

Ann also had the reputation as a prodigious shopper but most of the time it was for other family members.  One niece labeled her “the fastest discount calculator on the planet” as she didn’t need a computer to find the best bargains. She also enjoyed snowmobile trips with her husband and friends, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren.

Ann is survived by her husband of twenty-seven years, Bob; her three sons, Brandon (Wynn) Ferrier and children, Hutton and Willa of Cottage Grove, WI; Derek (Liz) Ferrier and their son, Jensen of Sturgeon Bay; and Scott (Tracy) Grimmer and granddaughters Jenna and Kenley of Princeton, Ill. She is also survived by brothers, Charlie (Lisa) Savage, and Tom (Gail) Savage; brother-in-law, Vernon Kiehnau; and nieces and nephews, Julie, Mike (Jenn), Leah (Eric), Ericka (Chris), Austin (Kelly), Ashely (Simon), Britny, Logan (Molly) and Matthew; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Muriel Savage and her beloved sister, Mary Kiehnau.  Ann’s passing leaves a huge hole in the entire Ferrier, Grimmer, Savage and Kiehnau families.  She will be missed more than mere words can ever begin to describe.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 17, 2021, at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Dan Olson officiating.  Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.  Visitation will be 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home on Friday.  On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Green Bay Oncology and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Ann’s final battle.
