William “Bill” C. Weber, 64, of Sturgeon Bay, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at his residence.
He was born on May 27, 1957, to Charles P. and Maureen F. (Arndt) Weber in Milwaukee. Bill attended Corpus Christi and later S.S. Peter and Paul grade schools in Sturgeon Bay and was a 1975 graduate of Sevastopol High School. After high school he attended the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire before enlisting in the United States Navy.
From 1979 through 1994 Bill served his country in part at sea on naval ships and submarines as a Cryptologic Technician – Communications Petty Officer Second Class (CTO2) where he supported combat operations with Desert Shield and Desert Storm from August 1990 to February 1991. Prior to that assignment, he served as Communications Watch Supervisor and Division Career Counselor at the U.S. Naval Communication Station at Diego Garcia from February 1988 to March 1989. Bill received letters of commendation for his work in communications and his “superb self-motivation and dedication” to his responsibilities and the U.S. Navy. Peacetime ports he called home throughout his 16 years of service included Norfolk, Virginia, and Melbourne, Australia.
Bill returned to Sturgeon Bay to be closer to family after the death of his father. For many years you would see Bill accompany his mother to events, plan travel excursions with her, and be an endearing caregiver whenever she needed him later in life. He had a love for many things including his family, meeting people and striking up a conversation during his everyday interactions. Bill enjoyed watching sports of every kind, attending games, and had a fulfilling lifetime hobby of collecting and selling sports cards and memorabilia.
In Sturgeon Bay, he was initially employed by C&S Manufacturing, but finished his years of service with the government while working at the Sturgeon Bay Post Office until his retirement in March of 2013.
Bill will be missed by his three siblings and their families: Elizabeth Weber-Maas of Marinette, Susan (Dean) Anschutz of Sturgeon Bay, and Michael (Jill) Weber of Waunakee; nieces and nephews, Brittany (Megan) and Brianna Maas and great-niece, Alayna, Michael and Samantha; Nathan and Elise Anschutz and great-nephews, Logan and Levi; and Andrew (Mollie) and Tyler Weber; and by cousins; and other family; and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents; aunts and uncles; and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Ryan Krueger as celebrant and Dcn. Mark Hibbs assisting. Military honors by the United States Navy and the Weber-Tess AMVETS Post 51 will follow at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol (Sturgeon Bay) at a later date.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Memorials may be given in Williams’s name for the Door County Veterans Service Council which supports local veterans and their families.
