Obituaries

Robert Lau

 Robert Karl Lau, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away early Friday morning, February 4, 2022, at his daughter’s home with his children at his side. 

     He was born July 16, 1932, in Door County the son of the late Harry and Cecilia (Groth) Lau. Robert graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1950 before serving in the U.S. Army. He married Helena M. Malvitz on June 14, 1952, after serving in Korea, where he suffered severe hearing loss. Robert worked for over 30 years at Pranges Department Store until his retirement. He did everything there from keeping the mechanicals up and running to installing appliances sold there along with carpet and various flooring installations.  

     Robert loved traveling with his wife, Helena, especially to Arizona. They loved the times spent camping with family, friends, and the grandchildren. He enjoyed raising horses, cutting firewood, and morning coffee with his good friends, Larry and Linda Stuth, who also camped with them.

     Survivors include his three children, Roberta (Mike) Dufek of Algoma, Dan (Jill) Lau of Sturgeon Bay, and Karl (Stacey) Lau of Luxemburg; four grandchildren, Loryn (Mitchell) Sheahan, Alexander Lau, Robert Lau, and Jordan Lau; and one great-grandson, Jase Sheahan.

     Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Cecilia Lau; wife, Helena; granddaughter, Elizabeth Lau; two brothers, Jim, Dick Lau; and two sisters, Betty Krueger and Barb Pierre. 

     Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Huehns Funeral Home with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery.  

     Friends may call on Thursday at Huehns Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Military honors will follow the service at Huehns Funeral Home.
