Marilyn Jean Sorenson

Marilyn Jean Sorenson, 88, of Sturgeon Bay, died Friday evening, February 25, 2022 at Sturgeon Bay Health Services.

She was born on May 14, 1933, in Sturgeon Bay to Winifred Jackson. Marilyn graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1951. She was united in marriage with Charles Edward Sorenson on December 13, 1958, at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, where they both grew up attending.

Marilyn was a children’s librarian at the (former) Carnegie Library (now Stangel Accounting and Tax Service) in Sturgeon Bay. Her love of reading was passed on to her children and granddaughter. Marilyn was a lifelong member of the Moravian Church where she sang in the choir and was active in many groups. As a member of the Door County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, she volunteered (over 6000 hours) for various hospital events and efforts. Marilyn was also an active member of a local crafting group through which she enjoyed knitting and quilting. She also belonged to the local chapter of P.E.O. At home, Marilyn was known for being a good cook.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Charles, with whom she was blessed with over 63 years of marriage; children, Dr. Christine (Dr. Nader Sheibani) Sorenson of Madison and Paul Sorenson of Valmy; granddaughter, Sara Sheibani; brother-in-law, John Sorenson of De Pere; other relatives; and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Winifred Jackson; parents-in-law, Clarence and Martha Sorenson; and sister-in-law, Joan Sorenson.

Her life will be honored on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon and a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr., of Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, officiating. Marilyn will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.

Memorials may be given in Marilyn's name for the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church (323 S.5th Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235), the Door County Medical Center Auxiliary (P.O. Box 230, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235), or P.E.O. Chapter EI (6077 Trillium Ln., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).

“Our family wishes to thank the staff at Sturgeon Bay Health Services for the care provided for our wife/mother the last two years.”
