Allen J Alexander

Allen Julian Alexander, 84, of Namur, passed away on March 30, 2022. He was born in the Town of Union, Door County at the Frank Alexander Homestead on December 7, 1937, to Louise (Martin) and Eugene Alexander.  Allen lived with his mother and father at the Gaspar Martin homestead in Namur. His Grandfather, Eli Martin, Louise's father had started a bar and ballroom.  When his parents were 18 years old, they took over the bar and dance hall and named it Gene's Bar and Dance Hall, which they operated for over 30 years.  Allen attended Fairland Grade School through eighth grade and then attended Brussels High School, graduating in1955.  

 

In 1957, Allen married Theresa Gerondale at St. Mary of the Snows in Namur.  Together they raised five sons. Allen served his country in the National Guard from 1957 to 1960.  He worked for Green Bay Auto Parts until July of 1956 and then began working for Northern Papermill. When he retired after 42 years, the papermill was named Georgia Pacific and he retired as an Electrical Supervisor.  

 

Allen spent many years as a volunteer at St. Francis and St. Mary Church in Brussels, WI. He served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis and St. Mary Parish and at St. Louis Parish in Dyckesville, WI.  He also served on the Parish Financial Council at St. Francis and St Mary’s and on the Town of Union Zoning Board. 

 

His most cherished and proudest accomplishment was saving the St. Mary of the Snows Church in Namur from destruction and working to help it become the Belgian Heritage Center.   He served on the board of directors for the Belgian Heritage Center for several years and also served as President of the Peninsula Belgian American Club for 10 years. While in that position, he traveled to Belgium two times, hosted by Louis and Marcellin Guilette and Victor and Jenn Des Jardin. 

 

Survivors include his wife, 5 sons: Sam Alexander, Boones Mill, VA; Dan Alexander, San Diego, CA; Tim Alexander (Riddhini), Falls Church, VA; Chris Alexander, Appleton, WI; and Joe Alexander (Mei Mei Yip), New Franken, WI; 5 grandchildren: Brittany Alexander, Brandon (Tesla) Alexander, Nicole (Travis) Schneulle, Ashley Alexander, and Erin (Uriah) Stutzman; 3 great-grandchildren, Jayden Schneider, Myla and Emory Stutzman; brothers, Gary (Karen) Alexander, Brussels, WI; Jack (Yvonne) Alexander, Brussels, WI; Terry (Sue) Alexander, Brussels, WI; sister-in-Law, Bonnie (Steve) Pearson, Acworth, GA; and sister-in-law, Nancy Alexander, Suamico, WI. 

 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gene and Louise Martin Alexander, father and mother-in-law, Desire and Mary (Chaudoir) Gerondale, brother Robert Alexander; uncles and aunts: Ralph and Frances (Ploor) Alexander, Pauline (Bill) Englebert, George and Pearl (Demoulin) Alexander, Ray and Mary Jane (Becker) Alexander, Arthur and Glory Ann (Agamite) Alexander, Alvin and Florence (Alexander) Englebert and many nieces and nephews.

 

Friends may call at St. Louis Church in Dyckesville on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.  A prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 pm that evening.  Visitation will continue at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 2 at the church until 11:00 am when a funeral mass will be conducted by the Rev. Edward Looney and Rev. Rommel Dacoco.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Belgian Heritage Center (PO Box 173, Brussels, WI, 54204).  Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
