Terry D. Kinney

Rev. Dr. Terry Dan Kinney, 82, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on November 5, 2021, at his home.  He was born March 18, 1939, in Madison, WI to LaVerne and LaVerne (Knutsen) Kinney.  On August 24, 1963, he married Cynthia Boller in Madison, she preceded him in death on March 28, 2021.

Terry graduated from Crystal Lake High School in Illinois in 1957.  After high school, he earned a B.S. in chemistry at UW Madison.  In 1967, he graduated from Luther-Northwestern Seminary with a master's degree in divinity and entered the ministry.  In 1984, Terry earned a doctor of ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary.

During his life, Terry ministered in numerous churches including: American Lutheran Church in Harlem, MT, Bethel Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, FL, and Hainesville Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.  He especially enjoyed playing guitar and singing with other musicians during worship.  While serving at Bethel, he helped establish several outreach programs which benefited the St. Petersburg community.  During retirement, he was a passionate representative for the non-profit group Food for the Poor.  

Terry and Cindy retired to Door County, building their dream house on family property where he enjoyed working the land for years.  He treasured the time he and his wife were part of the Door County Community.

Survivors include 4 children, Toby Kinney and Jon Kinney, both of Aurora, CO; Suzanne Kinney, Middleton, WI; Mark (Colleen) Kinney, Sturgeon Bay; 2 grandchildren, Claire and Andrew; a sister, Karen (Wayne) Fagerberg, Barrington, NH; and a brother, Norman (Jackie) Kinney, Ozark, AL.  He was preceded by his parents and his wife.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Tanum Forest Lutheran Church (6102 County OO Sturgeon Bay, WI) with the Reverend Anne Edison-Albright Bishop of the East Central Synod of Wisconsin presiding.  Burial will be in Clay Banks Cemetery.  On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
