IdaKay Appel Orsted

Dear Nana, you left us unexpectedly too soon. You left us missing your toasted grilled cheese sandwiches, your homemade chicken dumpling soup that we always made together, your Mac N cheese, and your secret ingredient cookies. You left us missing our four wheeler rides, our puzzle times, our go fish and war games, our many sleep-overs and slumber parties. You left us missing your homemade costumes and all the time we spent together. With all that we will miss, we also hold all those memories in our hearts. We love you so much and will always remember you as our nana with kitty.

IdaKay Appel Orsted, 67, Town of Gibraltar, died peacefully on Friday May 27 at home.
She was born August 14, 1954 in Algoma to Edward and Myrtle (Albertson) Appel.   She had a love for music and was a longtime member of the Algoma Community Band. She will be missed by her band family. She had a love for genealogy, family reunions and knitting.

She left behind two grandchildren Grady and Brody Baumann that she loved dearly, a son Christopher Lee Baumann and daughter-in-law Kari Lee Baumann. Her siblings Robert Appel, Tina Appel and Edward (Holly) Appel, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by; her beloved husband Greg Orsted, sister Sandy Schmidt, sister Cynthia Benson, brother William Appel, sister-in-law Dr. Joan Appel Traver,  parents Edward and Myrtle Appel and  mother and father in law Patrica and Orval Orsted.

There will be a graveside memorial gathering, Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gary Scharrig officiating at the  Baileys Harbor Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Baileys Harbor Recreational Center on Summit Road. Idakay was a collector of all things apple, so her family would like you to have an apple from her collection to take home. She was the apple of their hearts and the family wants to share that. Cards can be mailed to: 3256 County EE Baileys Harbor, WI 54202.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Kendall Park Memorial where the family will have a memorial plaque up in her honor. Kendall was Grady and Brody’s aunt. Or Algoma Community Band.
