Frederick Thyes

Frederick “Fred” J. Thyes, 73, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2022, following a long illness.

He was born July 13, 1948, to the late Fred F. and Marie G. (Smits) Thyes in Green Bay, WI.

Fred grew up in New Franken and graduated from Premontre High School.  He married Marilyn (Faucett) on January 12, 1974, and they spent many years together prior to her passing in 2008.

Fred spent the majority of his career in the grocery business, primarily as the manager of the meat department for Sure Way and Jubilee Foods stores. An avid fast-pitch and later slow-pitch softball player, Fred also took time to coach youth baseball to pass along his love of the game. Each fall Fred would be busy watching Notre Dame football, the Packers, or in the woods deer hunting. His true enjoyments were spending time with family and friends. He was a genuinely caring man who always made it a point to smile, ask how you were doing, and listen to and share stories.

Fred is survived by his son, Jesse (Corinne) Thyes and his two grandsons, Connor and Logan; his sisters, Doris Tilkens, Shirley (Jim) Daoust, and Sally Jacobs as well as other relatives and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marie (Smits) Thyes; his wife, Marilyn (Faucett) Thyes; brother, Jim Thyes; two brothers in law, Jack Tilkens and James Jacobs; nephew, Dan Thyes; and several other loved ones.

Friends may call between 4:00 and 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at McMahon Funeral Home, Luxemburg. Closing prayer service at 7:00 pm with Deacon Bob Miller officiating.

Private burial in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo.

In lieu of flowers, and other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund will be established in Fred’s memory.

The family would like to thank the Luxemburg Fire and Rescue Squad and other first responders as well as many friends and family for their love and support.
