Janice G. Mason

Janice G. Mason, 84 years old of Ellison Bay, WI, died Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Aurora Bay Care in Green Bay after suffering a stroke and a Traumatic Brain Injury.

     She was born January 24, 1938 in Eden, NC. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Sally (Hall) Gauldin. Janice graduated from Draper High School where she met her future husband, the late Thomas Ray Mason. On November 22, 1956, Janice married Thomas R. Mason in Draper, NC. She & Ray both worked for Sears Roebuck in N.C. Ray was transferred with Sears to New York, NY and they lived in Princeton, NJ where Janice worked at RCA. Then Ray was transferred to Chicago with Sears. They lived in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Thomas preceded her in death December 14, 2021.

     Wherever they lived, Janice was involved in the church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and participated in Women’s Bible Studies.  She also was an avid member of the Crystal Lake Garden Club in IL.

     Jan & Ray started the International Group in Sister Bay, WI which they led through 2009. The group consisted of foreign students that came to Door County to work during the summers. Jan & Ray organized events, trips, and meals for the students to give them a connection to the local church, as they were in unfamiliar territory and to show them the love of Christ. They students were provided with Bibles written in their native language to help them better understand the Good News of the Gospel.

     Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and four siblings, Eva Lillian Johnson, Hazel Lena Edwards, Beatrice Anne Winn, and Virginia Christine Salmons.

     Survivors include her daughter, Jami (Scott) Strickfaden of McHenry, IL; and sister, Cleatis Irene Shope of Eden, NC. Also, four grandchildren, Benjamin (Phyllis) Strickfaden of Wausau, WI, Daniel Strickfaden of Elgin, IL, Caroline Strickfaden of Blue Springs, MO, and Kaitlyn Strickfaden of Moscow, Idaho; and one great-granddaughter, Victoria Strickfaden.

     A celebration of Janice’s life will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Sister Bay. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. and Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Mark Billington officiating. Service broadcast may be available on Facebook or YouTube as internet and Wi-Fi allow.
