Patricia Doris Moeller

Patricia Doris Moeller, 98, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Clark Lake in the Town of Sevastopol, left this world Friday night, September 9, 2022 at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Center at Door County Medical in Sturgeon Bay, and entered into the promise of what the Savior said, “Today thou shalt be with me in paradise.” She was prepared to meet God long before her last breath and these last years remembering, “The one who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

Pat was born August 16, 1924 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of Peter Otto DeFere III and Martha Ida (Demmin) DeFere. She grew up attending Sevastopol School and graduated from Sevastopol High School with the class of 1942. Pat was born again on November 10, 2001. She was saved through reading these scriptural truths: Onward to Calvary “He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,” (Isaiah 53:7) and there and then “He once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust that He might bring us to God.” (1 Peter 3:18). “He was delivered for our offenses and was raised again for our justification.” (Romans 4:25).

Pat rode on the school bus that Chester William Moeller drove. He was just five years older than her. Pat and Chester were united in marriage on August 26, 1942 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute.

She worked in housekeeping throughout her life – at Glidden Lodge during the late 1960s and 1980s and then at private households for the Fairfield and Bailey families among others.

Pat and Chester were blessed with eight children and over 56 years of marriage. Chester died suddenly at home on December 23, 1998.

Pat was a member of a local Homemakers Club. She bowled in a league at Apple Valley Lanes in Sturgeon Bay and enjoyed several high scores (220+) over the years, including one game where she rolled seven strikes in a row and had everyone anticipating the possibility of a perfect (300) game. She was an avid reader who read the Bible daily. Pat could also be found with a Reader’s Digest or Chicken Soup for the Soul book in her hands. She kept her mind sharp as she put together jigsaw puzzles and looked for words in her word searches. Pat will be greatly missed by family and remembered for her compassion and care for others, always putting the needs of others in front of her own. She was an excellent cook and passed many recipes along to family and friends. Pat attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities as often as she could. She made lifelong friends easily and never forgot them. No one was a stranger to Pat, and no one left her home without having something to eat, and of course, ice cream and cookies. She always found a way to make individuals feel good whether visiting at nursing homes or at someone’s home bringing a meal or flowers. Pat did these things even into her early 90s until memory loss began to take over her life. But, even with her dementia, she never lost that giving, kind, and compassionate way about her.

Pat’s love will live on in the hearts of her eight children, Gary (Ginny) Moeller of Neenah, Sue Kroll of Egg Harbor, Barb (Dave) Christoferson of Ironwood, MI, Tom (JoAnne) Moeller of Sturgeon Bay, Marilyn (Bob) LeClair of Grand Haven, MI, David (Cassie) Moeller of Sturgeon Bay, Jeff Moeller of Sturgeon Bay, Lori (Art) Weborg of Fish Creek; 27 grandchildren; over 100 great and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard “Lenny” (Shirley) DeFere of Sturgeon Bay; siblings-in-law, Patrick Lake of Sturgeon Bay and Maria DeFere of Virginia; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Richard Kroll; grandson-in-law, Jordan Krebsky; seven siblings, Don (Jeanette) DeFere, Vernon (Doris) DeFere, Marietta Lake, Herbert DeFere, Orrin (Pam) DeFere, Larry (Bernie) DeFere, and (infant sister) Sharon DeFere; cousin, Ceil (Gary) Zeimer, whom she grew up with and thought of like a sister; brother-in-law, Glen (Juanita) Moeller and adopted brother-in-law, Francis (Jeanette) Moeller; and other relatives.

Pat’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Jerry Jennings officiating. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Mausoleum in the Town of Sevastopol, beside her husband, Chester.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

“Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Anna’s Healthcare in Sturgeon Bay, Odd Fellow Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Green Bay, the Skilled Nursing Facility at Door Country Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, and Unity Hospice for their extraordinary care and kindness.” Memorials may be given in Pat's name to any of these organizations.

Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Pat may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
