Lucille "Sweeney" Sohns

Lucille “Sweeney” Sohns, 102 years of Sister Bay passed away Thursday October 6, 2022, at Door County Medical Center.

    

She was born August 12, 1920, in Northfield, MN, the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Sieth) Sweeney. On August 8, 1944, in Minneapolis, she married Glen Sohns, who she met while working at Hotel Ephraim during her summer vacations. They were blessed with two sons, Arnie and David.

    

She graduated from Northfield High School before attending St. Olaf College and graduated from Minneapolis Business College. Sweeney worked at the First National Bank in Minneapolis while her husband was serving in World War II. Upon his return, they moved to Ephraim, and she was employed with Baylake Bank for 24 years.

    

Lucille was a member of the Ephraim Moravian Church, the Women’s Fellowship and Scand Auxiliary. She was very active and involved with her groups, serving as treasurer of Scandia Auxiliary for 20 years, Treasurer of the Ephraim Moravian Church and served on both the Board of Trustees and Board of Elders. In retirement years, she worked part time at Busha’s Gift Shop and cashier at Bargain’s Unlimited at Scandia Village for over 30 years.

    

Lucille and Glen enjoyed many trips together throughout the United States. She also loved reading, being on her computer, playing Bridge, bowling and best of all…….GOLFING into her mid 90’s. She was a member of Bay Ridge Golf Course for over 30 years.

    

Lucille had a warm smile for whomever she met and will be missed by many. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always near and dear to her. To her many friends she was known as “Sweeney”.

    

Surviving family include two sons, Arnold (Janet) Sohns of Fort Meyers Beach, FL, (and their four children, Jason (Kim) White, Amanda (Trevor) Walker, twin sons, Adam and Andrew Sohns), David Sohns and daughter-in-law, Sandra Sohns, (and their three children, Luke (Amanda) Sohns, JoAnna (Nick) Accardi, and Brion (Ruth) Sohns; 14 great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces and nephews.

     

Service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Stella Maris-Fish Creek Site (formerly St. Paul the Apostle). Burial and committal will be at Little Sister Cemetery.

    

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Stella Maris Catholic Church-Fish Creek Site and continue Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

    

There will be a service honoring Lucille’s life Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., November 6, 2022 at her Ephraim Moravian Church home.
