Jean M. (Krohn) Doell

Jean M. (Krohn) Doell, 75, Kewaunee, went to her heavenly home, Thursday, October 13, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born in Kewaunee on October 17, 1946, the first-born of the late Leo and Virginia (Ollmann) Krohn. Jean graduated as Valedictorian of her Kewaunee High School class of 1964. In 1968, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in Spanish. During her college years, she studied for a year in Spain. She also studied at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada for a year working on her Master’s Degree. Jean was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Town of Montpelier where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. On May 2, 1970, Jean married Arlie E. Doell.

Jean had three careers and enjoyed them all. She taught Spanish at Green Bay East and Preble High Schools during the 1970’s, at Kewaunee High School from 1991-96, N.E.W Lutheran High School, Green Bay from 2002-2008, Pilgrim Lutheran School in Green Bay from 2007-2008 and volunteered teaching Spanish at St. Paul Lutheran School, Town of Montpelier to Grades 5-8 from 1996 to the present. She was also diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 1996. She also started bookkeeping at Krohn Dairy Products, Luxemburg in 1971 when her Dad suffered a heart attack and she continued in that role until the business was sold in 2000. She would teach school during the day and helped with bookkeeping at night. The business grew and she became more involved in the business so stopped teaching. She did go back to teaching after the business was sold. Jean and her two brothers became the 3rd generation owners of Krohn Dairy Products. She always enjoyed working with the farmers and the employees. She also served as Music Director at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, Town of Montpelier, for 48 years retiring in 2019. She served as organist, adult choir and band director, and also did music for the Sunday School, and grade school students. In addition to her love of teaching and music, she also enjoyed visiting with family and friends, reading books, shopping, going to craft shows with her sister, spending time at their cottage on Boot Lake, and spending time with her little grandson.

Jean was also involved in many community organizations including serving as President of the Bay Area Chapter of the American Diabetes Association (ADA); Board of Directors and Executive Committee member of the Wisconsin Affiliate of ADA; Board of Directors for Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce; Kewaunee Area Scholarships, Inc.; Friends of East Shore Industries; Board member of Build the Future Foundation for Kewaunee School District; served on the committee for the Kewaunee County Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society; and was currently serving on the Kewaunee County Library Services Board and active in the Luxemburg Lions Club.

Because of her community leadership and involvement, she received many awards including: 1987 the Kewaunee County Outstanding Woman from the Kewaunee Jaycees for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the community; 1991 American Diabetes Association Volunteer of the Year for the State of Wisconsin; 2001 the Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year; 2002 was selected for the Wall of Fame as a distinguished alumnus of Kewaunee High School; and in 2017 was selected for the UW-Madison distinguished alumnus for Kewaunee County.
