Lois Jean Gunnlaugson

Lois Jean Gunnlaugson, 87, Algoma, was called to heaven on Friday, November 4, 2022.  She was at her home surrounded by her family.  Lois was born August 28, 1935 to Hannes Hannesson and Luella (Johnson) on Washington Island.


Lois graduated from the Washington Island High School in 1953.  


Lois married John Gunnlaugson, November 20, 1954.  They moved to Kenosha where they owned and operated Lakeside Foods.  In the 70's they moved back to Washington Island where Lois worked and managed Washington Town Mutual Insurance Company.  After she retired they moved to Algoma, where she enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.


Lois is survived by her five children, Vicki Burke, Jon (Shelly), Bill, James (Heather) and Mari (Robert) Houston; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.


Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, infant brother Glen, son-in-law Bill Burke, sister and brother-in-law Janet (Bud) Waage, father-in-law and mother-in-law Jake and June (Jesson) Gunnlaugson.


Family and friends are invited for a Celebration of Life for Lois, Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, at 1:00 PM.  There will be no visitation before the service.


In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in Lois's memory.
