Daniel W. Herrbold

Daniel Warren Herrbold, 75, of the Town of Sevastopol (Sturgeon Bay), was called Home to be with the Lord, early Saturday morning, December 3, 2022 at Woodside Lutheran Home in Ashwaubenon.

He was born in Sturgeon Bay on March 10, 1947 to Delbert William Herrbold, Sr. and Lila Florence (Rankin) Herrbold. Dan grew up attending St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay where he received the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1965 and went on to study biology at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

Dan was initially employed with Kraft Foods out of Kendallville, IN for five years, first as a Food Technologist, then as a Quality Manager. He then worked for Miller Brewing Co. (headquartered in Milwaukee) for 30 years, initially as the Quality Manger for its Azuza Brewery in California before transferring to the Miller Brewery in Milwaukee as the Quality Manager and eventually as the Corporate Packaging Quality Manager, retiring in 2003.

On May 6, 2005, after an 11-year courtship, Dan married the love of his life, Ann Marie Baylog in Vatulele, Fiji. They resided together in Milwaukee until his retirement, when they moved to Door County and bought a house on the bay, just north of Sturgeon Bay.

Dan was a member of St. Joseph Parish, the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club, and Whitetails Unlimited, all in Sturgeon Bay. He was a true outdoorsman – an avid hunter and someone who enjoyed spending time on the water – boating, fishing, scuba diving, and jet skiing. Dan also liked traveling. He and Ann traveled to many exotic places – Fiji, Australia, Bora Bora, Switzerland, Belgium, British Virgin Islands, Tortola, Roatan, Belize, Costa Rica, St Croix, Grand Cayman and places throughout the United States. Dan loved spending time with his family and friends. He was blessed with an incredible sense of humor and will remembered by one of his many one liners, “This won’t do.”

Dan will be missed by his loving wife, Ann, with whom he shared over 17 years of marriage with; son, Jason Herrbold of Green Bay; granddaughter, Lila Herrbold; brother, Delbert (Sharon) Herrbold, Jr. of Sturgeon Bay; mother-in-law, Doris Wenz of Fort Myers, FL; siblings-in-law, Bryon (Kathy) Baylog of Westlake, OH, Linda (Rick) Herman of North Ridgeville, OH, and Larry (Debbie) Baylog of  Fort Myers, FL; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, Arnold and Frances (nee Peronto) Herrbold and George and Florence (nee Butler) Rankin; parents; father-in-law, Louis J. Baylog; aunts and uncles; cousin, Mark Herrbold and other cousins; and other relatives.

Dan’s life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 9, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 N. 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant and Dcn. Mark Bortle assisting. He will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.

Memorials may be given in Dan’s name for Crossroads at Big Creek (P.O. Box 608, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 or https://crossroadsatbigcreek.org/donate) or Whitetails Unlimited (P.O Box 720, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 or https://www.whitetailsunlimited.com/support/donate-now).
