Thomas L. Hanson

Thomas L. Hanson, age 78, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

He was born August 10, 1944 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, son of the late Lynn and Lucille (Anderson) Hanson. Tom attended Gibraltar High School, graduating with the class of 1962. Following high school, he served in the United States Navy. While in the service, he was stationed on USS Forestall and served in Cambodia. On May 7, 1967, he married Jean Donahue in Milwaukee. Tom was employed with Paper Converting of Green Bay for over 30 years until his retirement in 2009. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating on the Bay of Green Bay. He was a skilled woodworker, enjoyed golfing, and was a Packers, Brewers, and Bucks fan. Tom also enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Door County. Above all, he loved his family, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Jean Hanson; two children: Todd (Tammy) Hanson and Kim Wendling (Todd Reffke); three grandchildren: Brooke (Cody) Dorin, Summer Wendling (fiancé Caleb Wentker), and Stephanie Hanson (special friend Noah Kubsh); great-grandchildren: Braxton and Emmett Dorin and one on the way; one sister: Linda Koenig; two sisters-in-law: Janice Hanson and Wendy Hanson; and two brothers-in-law: Jack (Patricia) Donahue and Dennis Donahue. Step-siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Michael Hanson and Larry Hanson; and one brother-in-law: Brian Koenig.

Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and a memorial service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 North Water Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Joe Zenk. Military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 99 of Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to Wounded Warrior Project or given to the family for donation of their choice.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the Hanson family with funeral arrangements.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital, as well as Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the care and compassion they have shown Tom and his family.
