Dean J. Schlise

Dean Joseph Schlise, 61, of Forestville, passed away on February 10, 2023, surrounded by his family following a battle with cancer.

Dean was born on November 19, 1961, in Algoma to Robert “Scoop” and Janice (Dandois) Schlise. He graduated from Southern Door High School and began a life-long career working with his hands. He soon found his passion in woodworking as a successful carpenter by trade, installing his work across Northeast Wisconsin while also building beautiful, hand crafted pieces for his family. Dean was proud to end his career at CTI Hospitality, where he enjoyed working for 14 years.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Brenda Lee Denil, on September 2, 1989, at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Maxwell and Mitchell.

Dean had a true love for aviation, traveling to Oshkosh with Scoop for the annual EAA Airventure. It eventually became an annual family trip; year after year he, Brenda and the boys, spent more and more time there, volunteering, camping, and creating life-long friends. Dean obtained his own private pilots license and both of his boys are following in his path.

Dean was a kind, compassionate, and giving man. Whether serving on Knights of Columbus, helping his children with home remodels, or making Scoop’s famous mettwurst sausage for anyone who asked. He was a devout Catholic, whose faith and kindness shined through to everyone he met.

Dean is survived by his wife, Brenda, his sons, Max Schlise (Blair Wautlet), and Mitchell (Rachal) Schlise; and grandson, Bensen Schlise. Also surviving are his mother, Janice Schlise, his brother David (Karen) Schlise, father and mother-in-law, Walter and Mildred Denil, brothers- and sisters- in law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is proceeding in death by his twin infant sons, Tyler and Travis Schlise, his father, Robert “Scoop” Schlise, and his brother-in-law, Donald “Woody” Denil.

Dean’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15 with visitation from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Visitation will continue on Thursday morning at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood at 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Name of Mary Cemetery.  On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
