Marvel E. Hartel

Marvel E. Hartel, 85, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Friday morning, March 31, 2023 at Door County Medical Center following complications of a stroke six months prior.

She was born July 13, 1937, in Sturgeon Bay, daughter of the late Walter and Caroline (Schallie) Weber. Marvel was married to Roger D. Hartel on December 11, 1954, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She supported Roger as he embarked on a military career that spanned 20 years and took them to countries, and station duty abroad. They moved back to Sturgeon Bay full time after Roger’s retirement in 1977. She worked at Sturgeon Bay Shoe Factory and was well known as a great waitress at various locations in the Sturgeon Bay area for many years.

Marvel was a member of the VFW 3088 Auxiliary, and an avid bowler at local leagues for more than 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, loving her grandchildren, and was known as “Cookie Grandma” to them. She was also known to have the TV tuned to any channel with the Packers or Brewers playing.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; two sons, Roger (Lisa) Hartel, Jr. of Arizona and John (Kim) Hartel of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Shannon (Angela) Hartel, Alison (Jon) Duncan, Abigail (Davin) Malvitz, Anthony (fiancé, Jenica) Hartel, Dana (Sam) Vandertie, Autumn (Ricky) Cihlar, and Zoe (fiancé’, Caleb Fields) Hirthe; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie (Robert) Smith and Jean Weber; and brother-in-law, James (Colleen) Hartel.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Kim; grandson, Cordarrow; two sisters, Dawn Poh and Patricia Dufek; and brother, John Weber.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Huehns Funeral Home.  Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Marvel may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
