Robert A. Vlies

Robert A. Vlies, 70, of Algoma, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday May 20, 2023, at Aurora BayCare Hospital.  Robert “Bob” was born June 29, 1952, in Algoma to the late Clifford A. Vlies and Juanita R. (Culp) Vlies. He is a graduate of Algoma High School.  On July 3, 1976 he married his love Lynn M. Bair at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Algoma.  They were married for almost 47 years. Robert attended the University of California, Berkeley; Andrews University; University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, and University of Wisconsin – Madison. After college he worked for Peterson Builders Inc. (PBI), Bay Engineering, Palmer Johnson, Carver Yachts, and Marinette Marine. He also had several work-related accomplishments and achievements with the United States Navy. He was an active member of the Utility Commission Board and has served as Vice President and the current President. 

 

His favorite accomplishment was his girls Gretchen (Vlies) Hoard and Heather Vlies.  He loved to spend time with his grandchildren Noah Severinsen, Dylan Hoard, Izzy Vlies, and Sawyer Pierman teaching them to fish, drive, and most importantly how to love the Lord. Robert loved his family and cherished every moment with them.  He was a devoted Seventh-day Adventist, who studied and read his Bible daily. He always made sure to implement the Lord in every aspect of his life.  “The only person who loves you more than me is the good Lord”, Robert Alan Vlies.

 

Bob is survived by his wife Lynn Vlies; his children Gretchen (Daniel) Hoard, and Heather (Kevin Schmidt) Vlies; grandchildren Noah (Natasha Steinhaus) Severinsen, Dylan Hoard, Izzy Vlies, and Sawyer Pierman; brothers and sisters Vicki Vlies, Scott (Vicki) Vlies, Kendall (Kris) Vlies, Jane (Scott) Van Laanen; father-in-law Francis Bair; and brother and sisters in-law Julie Nell, Mike (Sue) Bair, and Lisa Wade. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, special friend Fred Entringer, and his church family. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Juanita Vlies; grandparents Fred and Lucy Vlies, Walter and Loden Culp; mother-in-law Jean Bair; brothers-in-law Patrick Bair, Kevin Wade, and Mark Nell; and aunts and uncles. 

 

Visitation will take place at the Green Bay Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1414 Shawano Ave., Green Bay; on Thursday May 25, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Cory Herthel and Pastor Kevin Moreno officiating.  Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Algoma.  Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Service – Algoma is assisting the family.  Online condolence messages may be shared at KinnardFCS.com.
