Doris Mae Stoeger

Doris Mae Stoeger, 81, of Valmy, in the Town of Sevastopol, passed away at home in the loving arms of her family and her beloved puppies, Bella and Mally, early Sunday morning, July 16, 2023.

She was born June 10, 1942 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of Carl Bernard Anderson and Clara Veneta (Bertschinger) Anderson. Doris grew up attending Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1960 and went on to study cosmetology in Green Bay.

Doris was united in marriage to Edward Ernest Stoeger (whom she first met during her junior year of high school-Ed went to Sevastopol) on August 25, 1962 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute. She joined the parish, and they remained lifelong members there.

Doris was employed as a beautician until she and Ed began their family. She was a dedicated wife to Ed and mother to their five children. Doris and Ed continued the family dairy farm (from Ed's family) on Clark Lake Road in the Town of Sevastopol, all while raising their family. They continued farming there with their son, Charles, until 1995 when they built their retirement home on Whitefish Bay Road in Valmy.

At SS Peter and Paul, Doris served with the Bayside Band. She also volunteered at SS Peter and Paul Parochial School. Together with Ed, Doris enjoyed deer hunting and snowmobiling, as well as a couples bowling league. She also bowled in a women's league at Apple Valley Lanes as part of the "Cherry Delights" team.

Doris and Ed were blessed with over 58 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2020.

Doris loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she and Ed were blessed with over the years. Her love will live on in the hearts of her five children, Charles Stoeger of Valmy, Michelle (Matthew) Orthober of Egg Harbor, Laurie (Glenn) Hasenjager of Egg Harbor, Lynn (Robert) Heyduk of Manitowoc, and Mark (Lisa Hart) of Jacksonport; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey and Samantha Stoeger, Andrew (Karen) Orthober and Chelsea (Adam) Edgerly, Aaron (Maygen)  Hasenjager and Sara (Colin) McMahon, and Rebecca (Dalton) Jonas and Tyler Heyduk; seven great-grandchildren (and one on the way), Calvin Orthober, Evan Edgerly, Everly and Maddox Hasenjager, Cayden and Isla McMahon, and Alexander Jonas; two sisters, Annette Allen and Karen Miller both of Sturgeon Bay; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Roger) Schopf of Carslville and Carol Kerscher of Valmy; godson, Carl Allen of Oconomowoc; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and dear friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Melissa Stoeger; brothers-in-law, James Allen, Floyd Miller and James Kerscher; and other relatives.

Her life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. Doris will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, beside her husband, Ed.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials may be given in Doris' name for the Wisconsin Humane Society-Door County Campus (3475 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235) or Sunshine Resources of Door County (55 W. Yew Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).
