Herbert Vogel

Herbert Florian Vogel, 94, of Maplewood, passed away on October 31, 2023.  Herb was born on July 29, 1929, in Brussels, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army in his mid 20’s, worked for Tenors laying pipe and then started his own farm, at the age of 39, after marrying the love of his life, Tina Couillard Vogel, on February 28, 1969. They raised 3 daughters, Tracie, Theresa, and Jessica and many foster children.

 

“I love you for a hundred million reasons” are some words that dad would sing to his children and grandchildren to express his love and gratitude for the care and visits he received over the years.  At bedtime, he would say, “Good night, Tina (deceased wife), Mary (Blessed Virgin), and Marilyn (Monroe), all women he adored. Today, he is saying “I love you” and “hello” to his family and friends in heaven. 

 

Herb, an expert sauerkraut and pie maker, lived a long life, valuing hard work, the joy of family and friends, great food, and good conversations reminiscing the past and oh how he had stories to tell.

 

Herbert is survived by his daughter Tracie (Erkin) Karimi and their children Mahrukh (Rowan) MacLeod and their newest addition Ayin, Mariam, and Mehmood; daughter Theresa Hrubecky and son-in-law David Hrubecky, and their children Alex, Paige (Bastian) Heinen, Claire, and Max; daughter Jessica (Mark) Schwartz and their children, Cody, Tyler, Casey, and twins Dawson and Quintyn; Angie (Randy) Stephens and their children, Kayla (Alex) Murphy and their children Tati, Myles, Alaina, and Stella, Faith, and Nicholas. He is survived by sister, Marion Schley, and in-laws, Karen Carlson, William (Barb) Couillard, Walter (Cheryl) Couillard, David Couillard, Couillard, and Patricia Couillard, and many nieces and nephews.  

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Tina Vogel, parents, Joseph and Mary Vogel, and his mother and father-in law, Melvina (Dale) Sanborn and William Couillard. Also preceding him in death are his siblings/in-laws, Ervin (Christine) Vogel, Robert (Kazue) Vogel, Bernard (Antoinette) Vogel, Thomas Vogel, Virginia (Frank) Peroutky, Geraldine Vogel, infant twin sisters Adeline and Evelyn, and infant brother Gerald, other in-laws Jerry Schley, Elizabeth Couillard, Eileen Couillard, Bill Carlson, and Melvin Couillard.

 

Herb’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to Marion Schley, Donny Vogel, Patrick Schley, John Vogel, Allen Vogel, Connie Koopmans, and Lori Blight for helping us keep our dad at home, and to Deacon Mark Hibbs for his numerous visits. Thank you to Unity Hospice for the patience, care, and understanding shown to our father. The kindness and compassion shown by all was comforting to him in his final year of life. 

 

Friends may call on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Forbes Funeral Home from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.  A prayer service is scheduled for 6:00 pm that evening at the funeral home.   Visitation will continue at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood on Monday, November 6, from 10:00 am until the time of funeral mass at 11:00 am.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
