Barbara Jean Anderson, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, died Friday morning, November 17, 2023 at Sturgeon Bay Health Services where she had been residing the past four years.

    She was born September 28, 1932 in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Ross Weber Harris and Ada Elizabeth (Hartman) Harris. Barbara's family eventually moved to Wisconsin, and she attended and graduated from Madison West High School with the class of 1950. She went on to study psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned her bachelor's degree.

    Barbara was a social worker for Kenosha County Social Services. 

    She was united in marriage to Dean Thomas Anderson on April 18, 1970.

    In retirement, Barbara and Dean resided together in the Town of Egg Harbor in Door County. 

    They were part of the Bahai Faith.

    Barbara and Dean shared over 43 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2013.

    Barbara loved her cats; they were like children to her. She would find them as they found her outside her back door. Barbara also liked tending to her garden at home.

    She will be missed by her siblings-in-law, John Rhoads of De Kalb, IL and Janice (Gerald) Tice of Redmond, WA; niece, Suzanne (Shawn) Carmody of Capron, IL; and other relatives.

    Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Ruth Rhoads; and other relatives.

    Barbara was laid to rest in Egg Harbor Town Cemetery beside her husband, Dean.

    Her life will be honored during visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.
