Genevieve "Gen" J. Richard

Genevieve “Gen” Jeannet Richard, 96, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of the Town of Egg Harbor, passed away early Thursday morning, April 18, 2024 at Bayview Senior Living in Sturgeon Bay. She was born in Gladstone, MI the 30th day of December 1927 to Jesse James and Delia Mary (LaPalm) Cartwright. Gen graduated from All Saints Catholic School in Gladstone. In 1945, she married Charles Arthur Richard at All Saints Church. All seven of their children, whom she loved dearly, were born at Horseshoe Bay Farms in Egg Harbor. She worked with apple, pear, cherry and plums in the apple shed on the farm and cleaned for several different private homes and motels in the Egg Harbor area. Gen and her husband loved Square Dancing with friends and did this all over the United States while traveling with their motor home. She also enjoyed playing cards, read and crochet. While living in Homosassa, FL, Gen and Charles were involved with Homosassa State Wildlife Park, where Charles ran the boats and Gen was a greeter, meeting people from all over the world. Gen was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (now Stella Maris Parish—Egg Harbor site) Altar Society, The Catholic Daughters of America, The Christ Child Society and Prayer Shaul Ministry Home Care, in addition to being a sacristan at Stell Maris Parish. Genevieve is survived by her children, Gary (Ya) Richard, Nancy Richard, Kim (Russell) Brungraber, Mark (Mary) Richard, Holly (Monica Hodges) Richard and Amy (Robert) Markstrom; grandchildren, Tracy, Chad, Chandall, Robin, Matt, Heather, Amthia, and CJ; great-grandchildren, Deanna, Colt, Emily, Tyler, Riley, Kyle, Augustus and Oliver; daughter-in-law, Beverly Richard; sister-in-law, Joan Cartwright; several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and cousins who were like sisters and brothers to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Leland Richard; grandchildren, August James Richard, Tony Lee Bauer, Sara Marie Bauer; great-grandson, Michael Anthony Lane; sister, Virgiline (Roy) Johnson; brother, Larry Cartwright; and in-laws, Eva Berninghaus, Mike Richard, Hank Richard, Grace Burlo, Ernie Richard, Amanda Dietrich, and Bill Richard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Chuck, in Egg Harbor Town Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:10 a.m. Huehns Funeral Home is assisting the Richard family.
