It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harry L. Baumann Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and veteran who left us on January 11, 2025, at the age of 89, peacefully surrounded by family. Harry was born on June 3, 1935, in Algoma, WI to Harry and Josie (Guelette) Baumann. After graduating from Algoma High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as an infantryman from 1953-1955. After his discharge from the service, he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of Milwaukee and became a police officer in March of 1962. On Nov. 19, 1955, he married Gail Neubauer in Maplewood at Holy Name of Mary Church. Together they were blessed with 6 children and enjoyed 69 years of marriage. From 1962 to 1990, Harry served the public as a game warden and police officer retiring from the Fox Point Police Department as a sergeant. Harry and Gail enjoyed a long and active retirement. They relocated to Eagle River on Kentuck Lake, where Harry continued to serve the public as a volunteer firefighter in Hiles, WI. Harry was an avid outdoorsman, spending much time hunting, fishing, cutting wood, making maple syrup, and crafting bowls and jewelry boxes from wood for family and friends. He was a good bowler and even made an appearance on the television show, Bowling for Dollars. Harry and Gail also enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, and wintering in Florida where he spent hours in the wood shop. He especially treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren. Harry was very committed to his Christian faith and was a Eucharistic minister and always active in church activities no matter where he lived. He will always be remembered for his prowess for storytelling, his great sense of humor and his trademark phrase, “How ‘bout that”.
