Sylvia Winebreener
Sylvia Darlene Winebrenner Petajan peacefully slipped into eternity on early Monday morning, March 24, 2025. Sylvia was born with a headful of red curls on September 26, 1934, in the state of Minnesota to Reverend John S. and Rena H. Rahn. Two brothers followed her birth: James Rahn (deceased) and Richard Rahn of Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Her earliest years were spent in Montana and South Dakota before a pastoral call took the family back to Minnesota where she remained until graduating from Monticello High in 1952. She could be found faithfully playing the piano from a young age every Sunday morning at church while her father preached at the pulpit. Shortly after graduating from high school, she married Harlan W. Swanson (deceased), which resulted in the birth of three children, all still living: Cathy Pabst (Bill), Connie Boldt (Gregory) and Joel Swanson. Sylvia enjoyed being “Nana” to 6 grandchildren: Richard Rudie, Katherine Carney, Matthew Swanson, (Heidi), Kevin Boldt, (Amy) Kelly Piasecki, (Chris) and Kristen McGinnis, (Samuel), as well as being “Great Grandma Nana” to 13 great grandchildren: Caleb Carney, Carrie Carney, Jacob Carney, Jonas Carney Lucas Swanson, Madison Swanson, Hannah Boldt, Kenneth Boldt, Logan Piasecki, Abi Piasecki, Rosemary McGinnis, Hugh McGinnis and Declan McGinnis. Sylvia also cherished her role as stepmother when she married her second husband, Neil Winebrenner, (deceased) adding to her “flock” Melinda Fletcher, Daniel Winebrenner, and Diana Raab, as well as their children, and in her third and present marriage to Albert Petajan, two more step sons; Kevin Petajan and Andrew Petajan and 2 more great step grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of a strong work ethic, a “can do” attitude to any and all life challenges and many lives touched. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to her “knight in shining armor”; Albert Petajan, who made sure the last years of Sylvia’s life were her very happiest due to his faithful love and his kind, gentle servant heart. Sylvia will forever hold a place in the hearts all of the aforementioned people as well as many coworkers, friends and fellow volunteers over the years. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Forbes Funerall Home is serving the familiy.
