Mary Jane Olson, 80, of Ellison Bay, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2026, at her home in Ellison Bay.
She was born on October 11, 1945, in Town of Liberty Grove, the daughter of Walter and Dolores (Fischer) Smith. Mary graduated from Gibraltar High School. On November 6, 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, Michael Olson. Mary and Mike lived in Ellison Bay until Mike's passing on February 18, 2023.
Mary worked at Barry’s Track and Trail, as a Bailiff at the Door County Courthouse, and Ephraim Shores. She also managed her family’s Century Farms Motel. She was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed spending time with family (especially family dinners), going for motorcycle rides with Mike, going out to eat (especially at the Carroll House), the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers, shopping and decorating for the holidays.
Mary will be missed by her sons, Christopher (Melissa) Olson and David (Darcie) Olson; grandchildren, Monica (Craig) Turner, Matthew (Kayla) Olson, Melanie (Martin) Ramirez, Marshall (Taylor) Olson, Levi (Lexi) Olson, William (special friend, Sophie DeKeyser) Olson, Emma Olson, Josephine Olson, Ava (Mack) Ellefson, Jackson (special friend, Kendall Gardner) Olson; fifteen great-grandchildren with #16 on the way; siblings, Yvonne Spieser, Kathy Manson, Thomas Smith, Richard Smith, Debbie (Don) Lettie, Bruce Smith, and Brian Smith; brother-in-law, Robert (Carol) Olson; sisters-in-law, Judy Smith, Betty Smith and Annette Nagel Olson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Mercedes, Walter, William and Michael Smith; and brothers-in-law, James Speiser and James Olson.
Mary's life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial held at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 2410 S. Bay Shore Dr, Sister Bay at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 23, 2026, with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. She will be laid to rest next to husband in Ellison Bay Cemetery.
