Yvonne Marie Tanck, 65, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away unexpectedly at Door County Medical Center on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. She was born January 23, 1961 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Robert and Carol (Pragatz) Tanck. Yvonne graduated class of 1979 from Gibraltar High School, before attending UW-Green Bay. She grew up on her family farm, in Egg Harbor, and worked there for many years. She and her mother, Carol, started Auntie Em's Bakery in 1993. In 1998, they continued their bakery, while also operating O'Learys Restaurant in Egg Harbor until 2005. Yvonne always had a talent for baking and became a highly sought after chef in many local Door County restaurants. She started her career in food service at Door County Memorial Hospital after high school, and continued on at The English Inn, Charlie's Supper Club, and Harbor Pointe, among others. Her drive, strength and levelheadedness made her a perfect fit for that demanding field. Yvonne loved gardening and nature, all animals, especially her own fur babies, and every dog she ever met. She loved music and was a known jokester with a classic wit. She had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to make people smile. Yvonne had the sweetest soul and was always looking for ways to help and give to others. In the early 1980's, Yvonne and Carol worked as promotors for the American Wrestling Association, driving wrestling greats around the circuit in Wisconsin. She was on a first name basis with Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, the Sheikh, Jerry Lawler and many others. She and her mom also traveled around the country, riding Greyhound buses and going on Riverboat Gambling cruises. She had so many stories to share about her adventures. Her family includes her daughter Tara, grandson, Garrett Tanck, and Tara's partner, Byron Pflug (and his children, Landon, Braelon, and Adeline) all of Traverse City, Michigan; three brothers, Robert (Roberta) Tanck of Hebron, KY, Tim Tanck of Egg Harbor, Frank (Peggy) Tanck of Sturgeon Bay; and her nieces and nephews, Trevor (Jenny), Ashley, Austin (Tracey), Annie, and John (Katie). Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; partner of 32 years, Norman Bruss; niece, Chelsey; and best friend, Darlene Pontzloff. A celebration of Yvonne's life will be held at 6:30 p.m., Saturday May 16, 2026 at Huehn's Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Friends may call Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:30 p.m.
