Richard "Dick" Heinemann

Richard "Dick" Heinemann passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the age of 86. Dick was a Door County, Wisconsin native and a 1957 graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School. No matter where life took him, Sturgeon Bay was always home, and he was happy to return for good upon retirement. Dick graduated from Lawrence College in 1961 and in 1964 he married his lifelong love and partner, Sharon. Together they raised their three children while moving from city to city throughout his career. His work with Time Magazine, and later Time Warner, brought the couple many adventures and travel opportunities, which they greatly enjoyed. But any professional success he achieved paled in comparison to the pride he felt in his family. Dick's life was marked by laughter and connection. He loved making people feel welcome and was always interested in learning about those he met. At social gatherings, he was often the loudest laugh in the room, frequently at one of his own self-deprecating jokes. We mourn his passing, but also celebrate a life well lived. An avid golfer, voracious reader, builder of literal stone walls, and a family man through and through, he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon; his three loving children, Kurt (Tracey) Heinemann, Amy (David) Rohn, and Eric (Sarah Tarleton) Heinemann; and his eight grandchildren, who each brought him immense joy and pride: Jack and Cooper Heinemann; Jacob Piper and Kyle Rohn; and Ella, Hannah and Cade Heinemann, and Jameson Charles. He is also survived by many friends, colleagues and cousins who made his life rich and fulfilling. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Howard Heinemann; mother, Eunice Schlintz; stepfather, Murray Schlintz; and sister, Barbara Benson. In his final year, Dick was at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Center Skilled Nursing Facility, where he, and our whole family, received compassionate, skilled, and respectful care, for which we will be forever grateful. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the YMCA of Door County or your local Alzheimer's Association chapter. Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC of Sturgeon Bay are assisting the Heinemann family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Richard may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.
