Karen A. (Moore) Spittlemeister

Karen Ann Spittlemeister, 78, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at Serenity Spring Senior Living at Scandia Village on June 16, 2026. She was born February 23, 1948, in Troy, Alabama, daughter of the late Edward Maurice and Jean (Parker) Moore. After moving to Sturgeon Bay, Karen attended and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School, where she met her late husband, Wayne W. Spittlemeister of Sturgeon Bay. They were married May 25, 1968 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Sturgeon Bay. Karen’s joy was spending time with family particularly a 4th of July ritual watching the parades in Baileys Harbor and Egg Harbor then heading to Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay arriving early in day for a grill out picnic with family and friends to enjoy the great company and excitement of grandkids playing and staying late to watch the fireworks (she will be greatly missed at this year’s picnic). Karen devoted a tremendous amount of time in her passion with the AMVETS Department of Wisconsin Ladies Auxiliary holding many positions including State Auxiliary Chaplain and State Auxiliary President. Having enjoyed many AMVETS events with her late husband, sons, and daughter. The Amvets brought a great many friends into her life which she was truly grateful for. Karen received an associate’s degree in marketing from Northeast Technical College. Before retiring, Karen worked many years as legal secretary for Toft Law Office in Sturgeon Bay; a job she enjoyed a great deal. Karen is survived by her three children, Allan (Laurie) Spittlemeister of Sturgeon Bay, Lori (William) Shull of Seminole, Florida, and Mark Spittlemeister of Sturgeon Bay. Karen is further survived by 11 grandchildren, Andrew (Laura) Spittlemeister, Madison (Steven) Metz, Michael Haxton, John Spittlemeister, Ashlee Spittlemeister, Amber Spittlemeister, Dillon Spittlemeister, Sophia Shull, and Eli Spittlemeister, as well as two great grandchildren, Marigold Spittlemeister (Andy and Laura), and Indie Haxton (Michael). She is also survived by siblings, Robert (Nancy) Moore, William (Mary Kaye) Moore, Richard Moore and Michael (Julie) Moore. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Tina (John) Moore-Loresch, Doris Moore, Judy Spittlemeister, Joyce (Jeff) Kramer, and David (Cheri) Spittlemeister; in addition to many nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Kevin Moore, and Patrick Moore. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr. officiating. Burial will be held at Egg Harbor Town Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Huehns Funeral Home and continuing at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 followed by a luncheon at the funeral home before processing to the cemetery. Memorials may be directed in Karen’s memory to ADRC of Door County Meals on Wheels (914 N 14th Ave, Sturgeon Bay WI 54235).
