Steven Caleb Brandt

Steven Caleb Brandt was born on November 3, 1984. Steve was, first of all, a lover of Jesus, which affected how he lived his life. He received his salvation through Jesus Christ at a young age and was water and Spirit baptized. He had a hunger for God and the holy scriptures, and spent numerous hours in prayer, reading, and listening to life-giving words that transformed his life. The Holy Spirit was strong in him, and he was able to bring healing, freedom, love, compassion, and Words of knowledge to so many that he met. He saw people with God's eyes and heard God's voice, bringing life and encouragement to those he came into contact with. He was generous to those around him. Being homeschooled, he formed tight relationships with his siblings. They shared many happy times together and walked through difficult times of loss with much grace and love. Many memories were formed with the Brandt and Fitzgerald families, along with fellow homeschool families of Northern Door. He loved God's creation from a young age. He loved feeding hummingbirds out of his hand and delighted in seeing them fly into his room after he took the screen off his window. He could be seen playing and romping around with dogs, while cats found a welcome spot on his lap. He was a lover of learning new things at a young age. He learned magic tricks to share with people at parties. He liked showing off his yo-yo tricks and teaching others to do them. He learned the art of bonsai, creating interesting shapes on miniature trees. He earned his second-degree black belt in karate with teacher Brad Elkins. He etched beautiful designs on mirrors and glass, which were given as gifts. He mastered Japanese bookbinding, making beautiful books of his photography featuring special words and stories to bless those around him. He appreciated different genres of music and enjoyed going to many concerts, often capturing the shows with his camera. Steve took great pleasure in sharing his love of photography, especially with children. He loved children, and they loved him. He was goofy and playful. He bought a pair of lightsabers and loved staging matches and using them as props for his photography. He even dressed up as Darth Vader and photographed a lightsaber match in an ice cave in Iceland. He spent countless hours studying the art of photography, taking courses online, and learning from Dan Anderson and Suzanne Rose. He shared his skills and knowledge of photography with anyone who wanted to learn and spurred them on to go further. He became an excellent wedding photographer, often working with his good friend, Chris Miller. He took great pleasure taking photos of people, families, and all the beauty that surrounded him in the places he lived and visited. Capturing ice photos in Door County was a passion he pursued every winter. He also mastered drone and underwater photography, adding to his list of accomplishments. He became a proficient pool player and could be seen in pool halls wherever he went, but especially loved coming home to play with his brothers and his band of pool buddies in Door County. He appreciated gathering people together and making food for them, and became an excellent gourmet ice cream maker. He loved watching movies in our barn with family and friends, where he brought electric blankets so we could watch movies even in the winter. Extreme sports became part of his life, and he could be seen snowboarding, skateboarding, and embracing the thrill of kiteboarding on the open or frozen waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay with his kiteboarding clan. For 20 years, he worked in the trade of granite polishing and installation for Door County Natural Stone Surfaces, with Luke and Jeff, then at Monarch Surfaces with Jamie and Darla, and finally at North Central Granite with Matt and Melissa, who all became his family. He liked making tables, cutting boards, and shelves from granite to give as gifts. He was comfortable wearing baseball caps and construction clothes, but could also be seen as a sharp-dressed man, with fine suits, hats, jewelry, and watches. He had a great desire to travel, so he did mission work in Kenya, Africa, New Orleans, and Guatemala. He traveled a lot in the U.S. with friends and family, and more recently in Ireland, Scotland, and Iceland. He always had a camera in hand to photograph his journeys. After his father died, Steve lived his later years in Ohio, where he was adopted into the Kelley family. Michael and Sally; their children, Jennifer, Melissa, Elizabeth, Josh, and Seth, and grandchildren, became his sweet home away from home. They shared wonderful moments together and loved him well. Steven passed from this life in July 2026. We will all immensely miss his zest for life; his joy, laughter, humor, and love; and his helping hands, listening ears, encouraging words, and wisdom. Steven was preceded in death by his father, David Brandt; sister, Amanda Brandt; paternal grandparents, Donna Jean and Albert Brandt; maternal grandfather, John Fitzgerald; and paternal aunt, Sandy Sawyer. Steven is survived by his mother, Kari Fitzgerald Brandt; siblings, Sarah, Carolyn (Eric), Daniel (Trisha), Patrick, Hannah, and William (Katie); maternal grandmother, Phyllis Fitzgerald; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his adopted family, the Kelleys. Steven's life will be celebrated on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay. A time of fellowship will be held immediately following the service. Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. in Sturgeon Bay is assisting the Brandt family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Steven may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.
