James "Peanut Butter" Haegele, 59, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after a long battle with heart conditions. He will be remembered for his love, laughter, and kindness. James was born April 30, 1967 to the late Francis James and Laverne May (Ferron) Haegele. He graduated from Algoma High School in 1985. James loved fishing and spent much of his time on the water or at his tying bench creating flies. Friends and fellow anglers often turned to him for advice, reports, or his latest fly. Peanut was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He especially enjoyed teasing his nieces and nephews, creating memories they will always cherish. On September 1, 2000, James married the love of his life, Jennifer Kezo, and together they built a life filled with love and loyalty. He will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 26 years, Jennifer; their dog, Gilbert; his brother, Jerry (Kathy) Haegele; his sister, Sandy Scheps (special friend, Rudy); his mother-in-law, Karol Kezo; father-in-law, Bob Kezo; his sister-in-law, Amber (special friend John); and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Myron; half-sister; and sister-in-law, April Kezo.
