Susan Hunsader

Susan Ann Hunsader (nee Stephan) of Sturgeon Bay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, at Bayview Senior Care in Sturgeon Bay. She was born December 26, 1945, to the Honorable Judge Edwin C. and Joanna Stephan in Sturgeon Bay. Susan attended Sturgeon Bay High School, was active in several clubs and loved sewing. She would often design and sew her own clothes. She learned to twirl the baton and became one of the Golden Girls - the original Green Bay Packer Cheerleaders - when she was just fourteen. She said she “didn’t care about the guys”. She just wanted to twirl her baton.” Susan attended the University of baton.in-Whitewater and later returned to Sturgeon Bay. She worked at Baylake Bank - then the Bank of Sturgeon Bay - and Midwest Wire Products LLC. She married Ed Hunsader Jr. and they had three children, Alan, Erin and Phillip. Susan loved making clothes for her children, including first communion clothes and prom dresses. Being a very creative person, she had a lifelong interest in the visual arts and enjoyed working with pastels and watercolors. She was a huge fan of Bob Ross, the painter and Nancy Zieman, known for her sewing shows on PBS. Susan was humble, gentle and loving, always going out of her way to spend time with her five grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was also a faithful servant of God, serving on Catholic Daughters for years as well as administering communion at assisted living homes in Sturgeon Bay. She and Ed also built a “camp” in the U.P and spent a lot of time there later in life. She cherished her family, friends, pets and the beauty of nature. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Joanna Stephan, her husband, Ed Hunsader and her brother, Greg Stephan, and grandson Jace. Survivors include her 3 children, Alan (Suzi) Hunsader, Erin (Troy) Kelsey, Phillip (Carrie) Hunsader, her five grandchildren; Madeline, Peter, Kolin, Piper and Marin, and her sister, Mary (Stephan) West. Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at St. Joseph Cemetery Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday at church from 9:00 am until the time of mass. Forbes Funeral Home is serving the family. Special thanks to Angie at Unity Hospice and all the staff at Bayview Senior Care for all of their loving, kindness and care given to Susan during her time there; also thanks to the offices and staffs of Dr. Kelton Reitz, Dr. Simil Gala, and the staff and lawyers of the Ross and Liebmann Group.
