Dennis J. Vogel (b. 1953), 73, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday August 26th, 2026 after an unexpected heart attack in the recovery room after a minor medical procedure in Savannah, Ga. Dennis was born and raised in Sturgeon Bay, WI. There he grew up on the Vogel family farm, graduated from Southern Door High School, served as a volunteer firefighter, and worked in the ship yard at Peterson Builders. He later moved and spent the last several decades in Savannah, GA where he was proud to serve the Savannah College of Art and Design on their building maintenance team. He is remembered for always having tools ready and for jumping to help anyone in need or who asked. In recent years, Dennis loved his family and friends, fishing, a cold beverage, sitting & enjoying the evening sea breeze on his back deck, and great conversations and fellowship with his loved ones. Dennis was a member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Pooler, GA. In his youth he enjoyed deer hunting and driving demolition derbies of which he was highly successful. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Henry “Hank” Vogel and Jane Vogel, Sister Donna Sacotte, and brother in law Jon Marcussen. He leaves behind: his children Stacey (Dan) Gilson and Paul Vogel, his best friend Cathy Vogel, his uncle Rollie Fengler, his siblings Lynne Marcussen, Leon (Cathy) Vogel, and Terry (Kim) Vogel; a host of nieces and nephews, his life long close friends Louis and Susie Laviolette, and a host of other loved ones too numerous to count. Dennis will have a Savannah based memorial service on September 19th, 2026 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Visitation starts at 10AM and service at 11AM. Additionally there will be a celebration of life in Sturgeon Bay, WI on October 10th, from 1-4pm at Wave Pointe, Harbor House Waterfront Bar and Grill.
