Scott "Rocky" Louis Rockendorf

Category: Obituaries

Scott "Rocky" Louis Rockendorf, 69, lifelong resident of Sturgeon Bay, left our earthly world to meet our Lord and Savior and St. Michael the Archangel, late Saturday evening, September 26, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He fought a very long battle with multiple serious and chronic illnesses. Scott was born on December 27, 1956, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Louis George Rockendorf, Jr. and Shirley Mae (Braun) Rockendorf. He grew up attending St. Joseph Catholic and Parochial School in Sturgeon Bay. Scott graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1975 and went on to study Police Science at Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College where he earned his Associate degree in Police Science. It had been his dream to become a local law enforcement officer. Scott served on the Sturgeon Bay Police Department for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2007. In 1980, he and his good friend and co-worker, Mark Zvara, received the Fort Howard Award of Valor for rescuing residents of a burning building downtown on Third Avenue during a fire that consumed the apartments on the upper level. In later years, he served as a School Liaison Officer for Sturgeon Bay Schools. On June 6, 1981, Scott married his local sweetheart, Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Tice at the church both grew up attending, St. Joseph Catholic Church. They were blessed to celebrate 45 years of marriage and were inseparable. Even Scott's doctors commented what a good match they were-true partners, a team until the end. Their love for each other was evident. Scott and Betty shared that love with two beautiful daughters, Allison (Robbie) Lautenbach of the Town of Egg Harbor and Katie (Brent) Rankin of the Town of Sevastopol; and four grandchildren who were the absolute love and light of Scott's world: Liam and Lillian Rankin and Delilah and Harper Lautenbach. "Papa Scott" will be sadly missed. He was proud of his daughters and both sons-in-law and always appreciated their help. The grandchildren made him smile and he was amazed by their development and abilities. Rocky was a hard worker and moonlighted on his days off at local grocery stores. He worked at Red Owl while attending college at NWTC, Piggly Wiggly, and Econo Foods. After his retirement from the SBPD, Scott worked for the Door County Sheriff's Department, Bay Pharmacy, and Door-to-Door Transport. Rocky coached Sturgeon Bay Girls' Little League for a number of years and also served as District Administrator for our region for Girls' Little League International. He was very active in the Sturgeon Bay Professional Policemen's Association and enjoyed making the holidays bright for children and families, assisting with Chop & Shop with a Cop at Christmastime and delivering meals to the homebound on Thanksgiving. Scott enjoyed NASCAR and traveled to some of the races. His favorite vacations were spent at Disney World with his family, many times over the years. Alaska was also very special to Scott, and he traveled there several times to visit family friends and to enjoy a land and Inside Passage cruise in 2007. In 2009, Scott was blessed to receive a kidney transplant, thanks to his friend and donor, Mary Ann Hein, of Sturgeon Bay. He has truly been a warrior like St. Michael when it came to battles with health issues. Scott was always very optimistic and willing to try procedures and treatments to extend his life. He wanted to see his grandchildren grow up. Scott will also be missed by his two brothers, Mark (Chris) Rockendorf of Brussels and Todd (Kathy) Rockendorf of Sturgeon Bay. He was warmly welcomed into the Tice family and was pleased to be part of a large family, further survived by his siblings-in-law, Larry (Diane) Tice of Sturgeon Bay, Tom (Nancy Delsart) Tice, Bob (Gail) Tice, Jon (Laura) Tice, and Jean Tice, all of the Town of Sevastopol. Scott was also very close to his nieces and nephews from both the Rockendorf and Tice families and always enjoyed celebrations to spend time with them. He was a favorite uncle and was especially close to his niece, Veronica (Kannenberg) Fritz, and her husband (Scott's Blackjack buddy), Jeff Fritz of Mesquite, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Shirley Rockendorf; parents-in-law, Robert, Sr. and Dorothy (nee Wnuk) Tice; siblings-in-law, Judy (James “Jim”) Kannenberg and Charles "Chuck" Tice; niece, Paula (nee Tice) Shiver; other relatives; and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 N. 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. Scott will be laid to rest in the columbarium at St. Joseph Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with a parish wake service to conclude the evening at 7:45 p.m., led by Dcn. Mark Bortle. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of closing prayers at 10:25 a.m., followed by the procession to church. Scott will be escorted and carried into church by the Sturgeon Bay Police Department. "Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Father Matthew Rappl of St. Joseph Parish, the Mary Gilson Prayer Group and other prayer groups at St. Joseph, Dr. Anna Lim and his Prevea Healthcare providers, St. Vincent Hospital providers, nurses, CNA's and care team, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, DaVita Dialysis Center in Sturgeon Bay and Dr. Stephen Neu, Door County Cancer Center and Dr. Anthony Jaslowski, Ascension Home Health, and Unity Hospice your wonderful support and care. We also want to thank all the neighbors and friends who have been so supportive throughout (Rocky's) long journey." Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Scott may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.
