Barbara R. Kust (nee Ruegg) quietly passed away on Sunday Oct 18, 2026 in Kyle, Texas at the age of 92. Barb was raised and loved by her foster parents, Alex and Olga Moersfelder. She had been a Washington County resident for most of her life. On October 31, 1953 she was united in marriage to Emery “Em” Kust at Immanuel United Church of Christ in West Bend. Barb had strong faith in her Lord which was reflected in the people she associated with.
She was blessed with a son, Ken, a daughter-in-law Karen, and four healthy, loving grandchildren: James, Christopher, Ana and Taylor that added more enjoyment to her life. She is grateful for all her wonderful friends who made her life complete. Barb found great satisfaction in helping the elderly and always strived for order, honesty and cleanliness. She loved her flowers, vegetable garden and bird watching. She and Em were the recipients of the West Bend Mayor’s City Beautification Award in 1992. Many meals were prepared in her kitchen for family and friends to enjoy. If she heard a familiar song on the radio, she was singing along. Crafts, drawing, sewing and painting were favorite parts of her busy life. Her gracious and loving spirit will be remembered in a private family gathering at Washington County Memorial Park. Barb has requested that any memorials be given to her loving friends at the Washington County Humane Society. “A Smile”—A smile costs nothing but gives so much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can’t be made richer by it. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as no one needs a smile as much as he who has no more to give. Peace!
