The Gibraltar Vikings and the Kewaunee Storm were able to get their seasons off on the right foot Thursday night with wins in their respective contests.
The Vikings were able to force 16 turnovers in their 60-12 win over host Sturgeon Bay. Brenna Zuehlke was the leading scorer for the Clippers on a night where the Vikings defense caused fits for the home team.
The Storm blew past the Southern Door Eagles 48-36 in its first game of the season. One day after signing her National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Michigan Tech, Sara Dax led all scorers with 16 points for Kewaunee. Mac Tlachac chipped in 12 points in the win. Hailey Shimon led the Eagles in scoring, registering 14 points.
Luxemburg-Casco’s Jenna Jorgensen’s 22 points led all scorers but it was not enough to sink the Bay Port Pirates in a 66-58 loss in Suamico. Cassie Schiltz scored 14 points in her first game since signing her NLI with Green Bay on Wednesday.
Local action tonight includes Algoma hitting the road to face Green Bay West while Sevastopol hosts NEW Lutheran. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
