Girls basketball headlines Thursday's Packerland slate

By Tim Kowols

Area teams will not have to travel far to face their conference foes in a busy night for Packerland Girls Basketball, with all teams beginning action at 7:30 p.m.

Algoma will host the season’s first match-up against its county rival Kewaunee. The battle of unbeatens will feature the conference’s leading scorer Makayla Guilette for Algoma and its fourth leading scorer in Sara Dax of Kewaunee.

Sevastopol will play at home against Peshtigo after playing in a Thanksgiving weekend tournament in Lena. The Pioneers are looking for their first conference win of the season after securing its first victory on the season against Elcho last weekend.

Southern Door entertains Oconto at home as the Eagles look to get above .500. Hailey Shimon is the third leading scorer in the conference, scoring 19 points a game.

Finally, Sturgeon Bay is looking for their first win of the season when it hosts Green Bay NEW Lutheran. Junior Sarah Bridenhagen is leading the Clippers in most statistical categories including points (7.0), rebounds (5.0), and assists (1.0).
