Kewaunee wrestling outlasts Green Bay United 42-40

By Tim Kowols

Kewaunee’s Paul Wery gave up about 50 pounds and a few inches to Green Bay United’s Isaac Klarkowski, but he did not give up the pin in the Storm’s 42-40 victory Thursday night. After finding itself in an early 18-0 hole, the Storm rattled off three straight pins by Logan Steinhorst, Jack Severin, and Nathan VanGoethem. Dylan Steinhorst’s first period pin would be the last points the Storm would score on its own, securing three forfeits en route to the final match. Wery eventually lost to Klarkowski 16-4, but his ability to get out of pinning combination kept the damage limited to just a major decision, leaving the Green Bay United two points of shy of potentially winning the match due to tiebreakers. Kewaunee is back in action on Saturday at the Papermaker Invitational in Kimberly.
