Packers & Falcons have plenty of history

By Nick Freimuth

The 2018 season for the Packers and Falcons has been one of mystery. Each team has incredible talent at quarterback and some explosive weapons surrounding Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers. Wide receivers Julio Jones and Davante Adams are two of the top receiving threats in the NFL. Their records however tell a much different story. Green Bay is just (4-7-1) on the season while Atlanta is only (4-8). The week 14 matchup on paper when the schedule was released looked like one of the best of the entire season. Now it is more a game of draft pick placement then playoff seeding. While each team is still mathematically eligible for the postseason, the number of things that need to happen for them to get in is overwhelming.

The Packers have won three of the last five regular-season meetings against the Falcons. In addition, nine of the last 11 regular-season matchups between the two teams have been decided by eight points or less, including six by three or fewer points.

Sunday’s noon kickoff from Lambeau Field will likely be the start of a very close game. Each team has plenty of talent. Much of the attention will be directed towards the Packers play-calling under new head coach Joe Philbin.
