Basketball a family affair at Southern Door

The Southern Door boys basketball team broke a Packerland Conference record Friday, the same record that several parents of the current team set 34 years earlier. Members of the 1983-1985 Southern Door teams were honored before the varsity tip-off as friends and family looked on, including some watching from the home bench. Mark LeCaptain was one of those honored and played on the 1983 and 1984 teams. His two sons, Nick and Derik, have played with the Eagles through their streak. He said infusing a competitive spirit in the boys when they were young was key to creating effective student-athletes.

Derik LeCaptain is a football commit to the University of Minnesota while Nick currently plays basketball at St. Norbert College. The 2018-2019 Eagles will go for 30 straight wins next Tuesday when they travel to Sevastopol.
