Southern Door drops dual to Two Rivers 49-22 on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles showed their youth against an experienced Two Rivers squad Thursday night, but still hung around in a 49-22 defeat to the Purple Raiders in Brussels.

After giving up a pin at 145 pounds to Two River's Bailey Thelen to start the dual, Andrew Price was able to even things out with a pin of his own with 23 seconds left in the second period at 152 pounds. The Purple Raiders would go on a run after that, collecting a technical fall at 160 pounds by state title contender Joey Bianchi over Grant Englebert, a pin by Connor Reed at 170 pounds, a forfeit at 182, and another pin by Joaquin Guynes at 220 pounds over Riley Phillips.  The Eagles would turn the tide as freshman wrestlers Brodie Overbeck (220) and Austin Farley (106) picked up pins to narrow the gap. After Austin Falish dropped a hard-fought decision to Ethan Maloney 8-6, the Purple Raiders would pick up another six points on the pin by 120 pounder Nolan Hansen. Kyle Conard hung on for a 13-5 major decision for the Eagles before the Purple Raiders capped off the evening with a tech fall by Garrett Pagel and a pin by Matthew Bianchi.

The Eagles are back in action next week as they head to Oshkosh for the On the Water Tournament.

Other scores around the area included Luxemburg-Casco hanging on to beat Denmark 36-31 and Kewaunee falling at Green Bay Preble 43-31.
